JESSICA ALEXANDRA TRIPP
My personal artistic practice is one filled with textiles, shape, and color. I am inspired by light and shadow and how color changes depending on the time of day. I think about how light impacts my own experience and wonder how much of a role it plays in an individual's sense of security and well-being. Or how does a certain kind of light act as a marker in our memories? Growing up on Cape Cod, my memories are speckled by the high sun on an August beach day and the golden ends of days. New England winters are blue and gray, but can contain the sterile brightness of the sun reflecting off the snow. The shadows in April are more intense than May. Can I mark time just by the way the shadow of fence looks on the sidewalk?
I bring this same sensitivity to my sewing practice. In my work sewing garments, I am attuned to the textiles and how they suit the garment. In my quilting work, I approach it intuitively, matching form and color with the feeling I am trying to convey.
